What they are looking for now is to know you better as a person. Last year, the school made some observations about how to tackle the essay . The ability to learn from experience. Interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills. Perhaps as the Secretary of the local chapter of the Rotary Club, you have been closely involved with providing vocational education to young men and women from economically deprived sections of your society. A description of your activities in this capacity would constitute an excellent example of your community engagement, but it would also be essential to explain exactly why you feel proud about what you do. Is it because it helps you earn a good reputation in society? Is it because it gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a difference in the lives of others? Or is it because your upbringing has instilled in you a strong social conscience? You may note that, of the three reasons mentioned above, the first, by virtue of its self- centredness, is the weakest, so that if you offer it as the sole motivation for the work you do, you are likely to create an unfavorable rather than a favorable impression! Next, we come to the second part of the question: how has the activity or achievement in question impacted your life? Following up on the Rotary example, you could say, for instance, that it has made you deeply conscious of the inequalities in our society, and the need to bridge them for the sake of social harmony and moral propriety. Such values inform your professional life as well. Considering the world limit of this essay, as well as keeping its effectiveness in mind, we suggest that you deal comprehensively with a single achievement or activity rather than with multiple ones. Ross has clarified that . There is no harm, therefore, in completing your essay in 3. The school advises you not to take up two introductory paragraphs before zeroing in on the actual topic. In fact, it suggests that you can even begin with the words, . Finally, it advises you to write the way you speak. That translates into, . What are the contributions you would like to make to your company, your industry, or your society, and what are the formative influences or experiences that inspired you to create such a vision? It is not essential that your goals should be a continuation of your current career. Perhaps you would like to leverage the Ross MBA to break new ground and pursue something different, but what you propose to do should be practicable and in keeping with your background. Convince the adcom that you are not building castles in the air, but that you are sufficiently qualified to take on the challenge you have set for yourself. Whatever the case, you will need to connect your past with your future, with the Ross MBA serving as a bridge between them. The Short Road from PDF to Word. The variety of digital formats we can use to store our information is continuously growing more abundant. Especially when it comes to dealing with text and visual data, either individually or at the same time, there are lots of documents we can opt for. Because many of them are specialized on a certain variety of input, we sometimes need to go back to the basics in order to fulfill a simple need like editing a certain passage or image. One of the most often used and consequently widely spread file types that accommodates graphics and written content at the same time is the Portable Document Format, in short PDF. They can be generated rather easily, but editing the enclosed data poses a few difficulties, particularly when the two elements, image and text, are both involved. This specific task calls for a dedicated software that can excerpt the elements you need to work with from the original document, namely a converter or extractor. The Free PDF to Word Converter is a tool that is designed for the above- mentioned purpose and its very name underlines the exact end- result it is meant to produce – a Word- compatible text file out of any PDF document. The fact that you don't have to pay a cent to get and use it adds to the value of an application that is also as easy to install as it is to operate. The interface is function- oriented and lacks any fancy menus, stunning graphics, or other visual enhancements of the sort. In spite of the austere appearance, the operational features of this utility are well within reach, easy to use and understand even for the novice user. Usually, this kind of software is built on the simple principle of load and convert, and Free PDF to Word Converter can also be used just like that, but what differentiates it from the rest of the pack is the nice set of customizable options that are only a click away. First off, you'll meet the batch- processing capability that enables you to select and convert several files at once. EasyPDF - Best PDF Converter. I'd rate the software with a.If you want to take out one or more items before the actual conversion takes place, there is a ''Remove'' button at your disposal. Next, you can pick the desired output format that can be either RTF or DOC, readable by all text processors. Things could simply be limited to these simple steps: adding the files, choosing the file type for the final document and then processing the input. This utility can yield very good results if you decide to stick to those paces, but should you want a bit more, it will gladly oblige. Let's say that among the PDF files you want to convert, two or more are encrypted, protected with passwords, or have certain restrictions. This software is ready to cope with that situation. You can help by providing the needed passphrases in a special tab, so when the documents are processed, Free PDF to Word Converter can read and decipher the content. Free Word to PDF Converter. This software is fortunately not prone. PDF Converter is a online web-based document to PDF converter software. PDF Converter; PDF to Word; PDF to Excel. Easy to use and free conversion online. 2014 Best PDF to Word Converter Review help you pick the best PDF to Word Converter software to. Article; Blog; Home > PDF Tools >Best PDF to Word Converter Review. Zamzar supports over 1200 different conversions. You don't even have to remember which password guards one file or another, all you need to do is write them in the order you consider more likely to be used, and the application will take care of the rest. In case you need only a fragment of the original file, you can easily define a page range that best suits your needs. Almost the same applies to any embedded images, as there are two available options: one for leaving out all the graphics and another for deleting from the output document any pictures included in the PDF. This way, you can keep only the text content that can then be readily edited using a word processor. This utility gives special attention to the character positioning and offers you a set of very useful customizations. Thusly, you can choose to process the word spacing to make sure that the layout of the written text in the resulting RTF or DOC is identical to that in the source file. The space between characters can be set manually or Free PDF to Word Converter will choose the optimal number of pixels on its own. If the documents you need to convert contain text boxes, they can be kept or stripped out by merging the text contents. Also, if you see line breaks as an impediment to easy editing, you can eliminate them too from text blocks. Once all the variables are set, the actual process of converting the PDFs should be fast and smooth, without putting a heavy load on the system resources. However, if you use it like I did, on a PDF with over 1,2. RAM usage that, in the end, went past 3. MB. The job was finished in a few minutes and, most importantly, error- free. The Good. The strong points of this application reside in the diversified palette of customizable options and its ease of use. Free PDF to Word Converter offers very handy functions and performs fast while keeping a high standard of quality. The Bad. The only visible drawbacks of the software are the non- attractive interface and the lack of an offline help system for those who can't access the Internet resources at all times. The Truth. Altogether, Free PDF to Word Converter is a solid performer that will enable any user, either beginner or advanced, to turn Portable Document Format files into documents that can be easily edited using a word processor of their choice. This utility is definitely a keeper, especially if you plan to use it for text extraction, where it excels. Radiology Residency Program. Graph colouring is a very well- studied problem. It’s known to be NP- complete for arbitrary graphs, so (assuming that P!=NP) we’re not going to find an always- fast algorithm for colouring an arbitrary graph. However, for typical graphs that we encounter in the wild, the following simple algorithm is pretty good. Start by saying that every node can be every possible colour. Graph coloring problem using backtracking method. Java.NET Framework; Android; iOS. What is graph coloring. A coloring of a simple graph is the assignment of a color. For graph coloring task obtaining good results; however SA is not a complete algorithm and it not always gets the optimal solution. In this paper GCP is. Graph Coloring algorithm using backtracking. Enter the number of nodes & edges 4 5 Enter the edges of the graph Enter value of x,y 0 1. Then: 1) Do you have a single possible colouring for every node in the graph? Success! 2) Do you have any node that cannot possibly have any colour? Failure! 3) Otherwise, you must have a node that still has at least two possible colours. Some of the nodes might have a single possible colour and a neighbour that has that possible colour. Remove the possibility from the neighbour. That might have caused some of the neighbours to themselves be reduced to having just one possible colour. If so, remove those colours from the possibilities of the neighbours of those nodes. Coloring.graphColoring(graph, m). And so on; keep on reducing the possibilities until you can do so no longer. Did you eliminate a possibility? Then maybe we’ve got a solution, or maybe we’re now busted. Go back to step 1. Otherwise, you eliminated no possibilities and there was a node that had two or more possible colours. Hypothesize that the node is one of those colours. Recurse; If the recursion produced success, then you’re done. If the recursion failed, then your hypothesis was faulty. If there is an untried hypothesis for the node, go back to step eight and try a different hypothesis. Otherwise none of the possible values for one of the undetermined nodes are good; fail. Notice that this is essentially a “backtracking” algorithm. We make a hypothesis, and if that hypothesis pans out, great, we’re done. If not, we backtrack and make a different hypothesis. If none of those hypotheses work out then either the problem is not solvable (for example, we are trying to colour South America with three colours) or a previous hypothesis was wrong, so we backtrack even further. We keep doing that until we’ve tried all possible combinations. That last bit is what makes this potentially exponential in time. In realistic graphs, the “reduction” step quickly eliminates so many possibilities that we don’t have to explore nearly the entire space of possibilities before either finding a solution or concluding that there is none. How are we going to do this? Remember, my goals here are to make the program easier to reason about by keeping things immutable where possible, but not so immutable that doing so produces bad performance or weird code. What we’ll do is we’ll make a class called a “Solver” which represents a bunch of possible colours for each node. The solver is immutable; when we must make a hypothesis or a deduction that changes what the possible colours are for a node, we’ll make a new solver rather than mutating the old one. Let’s make a solver that attempts to give a solution in n colours for a particular graph: internalsealedclass. Solver. The class is internal and sealed; we don’t expect anyone to derive from this or use it outside of this assembly. Later on we’re going to implement the first few lines of the algorithm sketch by asking “are we solved, are we busted, or do we still have more work to do?” so I’ll represent that by an enum. The solver keeps a graph, the number of colours it is going to try to use to colour the graph, and a bitset of possibilities for each node. The set of possibilities for each node is an array; as we’ll see later, using a mutable data structure for this task has pros and cons. We initialize the array of possibilities to have one set per node, and say that each node can be every one of the possible colours. Again, there’s no error handling in here. Were this a production- grade library I’d have logic that verified that the number of colours was between 1 and 3. Graph coloring problem with Backtracking in C Today I am going to post a program in C that is used for solving the Graph Coloring. Graph Colouring with Simple Backtracking. Eric's backtracking algorithm starts out. Coloring this map can be viewed as. Later on I’m going to need a private constructor that can set all of these fields directly, so let’s just build that now: private Solver(Graph graph, int colours, Bit. Set. The bitsets were designed to be small and lightweight value types; they’re just a wrapper on an int. Copying a bitset is trivial; we just copy the int. However, copying the array and then mutating it is more expensive; we duplicate the whole thing. If these arrays were going to be huge then this could get very inefficient; every time we’d make a new solver out of an old one we’d have huge amounts of duplication between the two; the difference between the two would in some cases be a single bit, which seems wasteful. If that were the case then instead of using an array of bitsets, I’d use some sort of immutable collection of bitsets that enabled me to re- use most of the state upon making an edit. That would add a lot of complexity, and frankly, copying small arrays is really fast and not that big. So, with the assumption that the graphs we are colouring are small, we’ll stick with the array solution. Note that our choice to make the sets immutable is paying off. Suppose we’d chosen a mutable set. If we mutated the set by removing all the items but one, we’d have to remember to put them back if this hypothesis doesn’t pan out! I’ve made this method public. It seems reasonable that the caller of the solver might want to impose certain restrictions of their own, like “I already know that I want Brazil to be green.” And as we’ll see in a couple more posts, this will come in handy. Anyway, getting back to the algorithm. The first thing we’re going to need to know is “are we done?”private. Result Status. First, we’re saying that if there is any node that has no possibilities, then we’re busted. The way I’ve chosen to do so is clever, and that’s maybe bad. I don’t like clever code, I like code that is easy to read, and this is getting a bit cute. It seems likely that the nested use of “Any” to determine “is there any member of this collection of possibilities that does not have any possibility?” is hard to read. I’m trying to eschew loops here, to make the code more declarative and less imperative, but this might have gone too far. Second, we’re saying that if we’re not busted, then maybe we have a solution: exactly one colour per node. Notice that I am counting each possibility set to determine if there is exactly one. That could do up to 3. Notice also that we are potentially iterating over the entire array of possibilities twice, looking for what is essentially the same information. I could have written this code like this: private. Result Status. Here I’m choosing to make the code be more declarative and read more like the algorithm at the cost of a little efficiency. I’m not taking on the burden of writing an unnecessary special- purpose counting algorithm. I know that counting a bitset is going to be pretty cheap; I can afford to have a few extra loops to calculate counts I don’t actually need. Notice also that I am not caching the result; it is entirely possible that this solver ask itself multiple times what its status is, and we recompute it every time. We have a tradeoff here of extra space and redundancy in exchange for better speed. But do we actually have a scenario where one solver is going to be asked multiple times what its status is? I don’t think we do, so again, YAGNI. Let’s not add extra complexity that we’re not going to use, not without a clear benefit. The basic operation of this algorithm has two phases. First we made all the deductions we can trivially do so without making any hypothesis, and then make a hypothesis. How are we going to do that first part? Again, there is a tension between an easy solution that involves mutating an array and a more pure but somewhat more complex solution that creates an immutable map from nodes to possible colours and then gradually edits the map by producing new maps from it. We’ll encapsulate the mutation solution by making it an implementation detail of the reduction method. The idea here is that the reduction method returns either null, if no reductions could be performed, or a new immutable solver with all the reductions performed. Solver Reduce(). Keep looping until // there are no more reductions to be made. I want to avoid any situation where we are mutating an object while iterating over it. We could in fact get away with that in this case; we could run the query and mutate the array while the query was running. But that’s really bad form, and would make it difficult to refactor this code, should we later decide to use a different mutable collection, or use an immutable collection for the possibilities. Instead I run the query once, cache the results in a list, and then iterate over the list. Note that again I’m trying to use queries to represent operations that ask questions, and loops to represent operations that induce mutations. And note that again I am using Count() rather than writing a custom method that checks “does this sequence have exactly one element”, which could then bail out if there were two or more. On the other hand, I’m using List. Count rather than the Any() extension method because I know that List. Count is actually cheaper than Any(). Normally the Any() extension method is cheaper than the Count() extension method because counting a sequence might involve iterating the whole thing, whereas the Any predicate simply calls Move. Next once. Notice that we could take an early out along the way here. We could detect whether or not we were in a “busted” configuration and return that result, rather than continuing to do calculations. The question is whether the cost of doing the test every time is worth the benefit of taking the early out. I’m going to assume not. I’m not normally a huge fan of using null references to signal conditions, but here it seems justified. What’s the alternative? Return a tuple of (bool, Solver) that says whether progress was made? This question is much more interesting in our next chunk of code. Download Graph Coloring Using Backtracking In Java Source Codes, Graph Coloring Using Backtracking In Java Scripts. It was succeeded by Windows 7, which was released to manufacturing on 2. July 2. 00. 9 and released worldwide for retail on 2. October 2. 00. 9. New features of Windows Vista include an updated graphical user interface and visual style dubbed Aero, a new search component called Windows Search, redesigned networking, audio, print and display sub- systems, and new multimedia tools including Windows DVD Maker. Vista aimed to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network, using peer- to- peer technology to simplify sharing files and media between computers and devices.
Windows Vista included version 3. NET Framework, allowing software developers to write applications without traditional Windows APIs. Microsoft's primary stated objective with Windows Vista was to improve the state of security in the Windows operating system. In light of this, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates announced in early 2. Criticism of Windows Vista has targeted its high system requirements, its more restrictive licensing terms, the inclusion of a number of new DRM technologies aimed at restricting the copying of protected digital media, lack of compatibility with some pre- Vista hardware and software, longer boot time, and the number of authorization prompts for User Account Control. As a result of these and other issues, Windows Vista had seen initial adoption and satisfaction rates lower than Windows XP. It was originally expected to ship sometime late in 2. Windows XP and Blackcomb, which was planned to be the company's next major operating system release. In some builds of Longhorn, their license agreement said . Many of Microsoft's developers were also re- tasked to build updates to Windows XP and Windows Server 2. Faced with ongoing delays and concerns about feature creep, Microsoft announced on 2. August 2. 00. 4, that it had revised its plans. For this reason, Longhorn was reset to start work on componentizing the Windows Server 2. Service Pack 1 codebase, and over time re- incorporating the features that would be intended for an actual operating system release. However, some previously announced features such as Win. FS were dropped or postponed, and a new software development methodology called the Security Development Lifecycle was incorporated in an effort to address concerns with the security of the Windows codebase, which is programmed in C, C++ and Assembly. Longhorn became known as Vista in 2. During this period, Microsoft was fairly quiet about what was being worked on, as their marketing and public relations focus was more strongly focused on Windows XP, and Windows Server 2. April 2. 00. 3. Occasional builds of Longhorn were leaked onto popular file sharing networks such as IRC, Bit. Torrent, e. Donkey and various newsgroups, and so most of what is known about builds prior to the first sanctioned development release of Longhorn in May 2. The incorporation of the Plex theme made blue the dominant color of the entire application. The Windows XP- style task pane was almost completely replaced with a large horizontal pane that appeared under the toolbars. A new search interface allowed for filtering of results, searching of Windows help, and natural- language queries that would be used to integrate with Win. FS. The animated search characters were also removed. File metadata was also made more visible and more easily editable, with more active encouragement to fill out missing pieces of information. Also of note was the conversion of Windows Explorer to being a . NET application. Most builds of Longhorn and Vista were identified by a label that was always displayed in the bottom- right corner of the desktop. A typical build label would look like . Higher build numbers did not automatically mean that the latest features from every development team at Microsoft was included. Typically, a team working on a certain feature or subsystem would generate their own working builds which developers would test with, and when the code was deemed stable, all the changes would be incorporated back into the main development tree at once. At Microsoft, a number of . The name of the lab in which any given build originated is shown as part of the build label, and the date and time of the build follows that. Future Longhorn builds would start from Windows Server 2. Service Pack 1 and continue from there. This change, announced internally to Microsoft employees on 2. August 2. 00. 4, began in earnest in September, though it would take several more months before the new development process and build methodology would be used by all of the development teams. A number of complaints came from individual developers, and Bill Gates himself, that the new development process was going to be prohibitively difficult to work within. As Windows Vista. Because a release to manufacturing (RTM) build is the final version of code shipped to retailers and other distributors, the purpose of a pre- RTM build is to eliminate any last . Thus, it is unlikely that any major new features would be introduced; instead, work would focus on Vista's . In just a few days, developers had managed to drop Vista's bug count from over 2. September to just over 1. RC2 shipped in early October. However, they still had a way to go before Vista was ready to RTM. Microsoft's internal processes required Vista's bug count to drop to 5. RTM. The 1. 0 Best Italo Calvino Books. The just- released. Italo Calvino: Letters, covering over 4. MIchael Wood, professor of English and comparative literature at Princeton. Wood selects his favorite of Calvino's books for Tip Sheet. Fantasy, science fiction, fables, essays, anthologies, autobiography, novellas, novels: the same wit and playfulness were always there, as was a certain special sort of seriousness. The interesting question, all the time, was where there was. After a protracted attempt at a second such novel, he never worked in this tradition again. But he didn’t abandon reality, only the ambition to depict it directly. He made a subtle, helpful distinction when he protested against the translation of the title of his novella The Non- Existent Knight as The Unreal Knight. 158 quotes from Invisible Cities: That is very different. Calvino said that as a writer he aimed at . Yet a version of reality all the same. Who has ever thought clowns are not real? I haven’t ranked them, because they are so different from each other- -but it would be a fine game in the spirit of Calvino to try out different rankings and decipher our reasons for them. If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler - This is a novel that pretends to be a novel that can’t get started. Through various editorial and other mishaps, every chapter turns out to be not a continuation of the work we are supposed be reading but the first chapter of another one. There are wonderful parodies here, of Borges, of French thrillers, Japanese erotic fiction, political allegories, Latin American magical realism. And in the end the disparate stories do add up to an ironic but tender happy ending. The two readers we have kept meeting manage to get together and stay together. Invisible Cities - In this extraordinary mixture of fantasy, fable and history Calvino traces the conversations of Marco Polo with the Great Khan. Each conversation is effectively a place, an invented, magical city that Polo . Every city offers images of great beauty and bewilderment, and the tone of the work darkens delicately as it progresses towards its ultimate, ambiguous visions of hell.

He had written five of them at the time of his death, so that in English the very title represents a wish and a regret- -the Italian book is called Lezioni americane, Italian Lessons (or lectures). Each lecture evokes a virtue that Calvino would like humanity to take with it, if possible, into the next millennium. The virtues are: lightness, quickness, exactitude, visibility, multiplicity. The Road to San Giovanni - This is an autobiographical essay about Calvino’s childhood in San Remo- -long walks in the mountains, many movies, time on the beach. His love- affair with Ginger Rogers, he says, was . He looks at the sky, his lawn, the sea, starlings, tortoises, Roman rooftops, a girl, giraffes and much else. He wants only to observe, to learn a modest lesson from creatures and things. There is too much to see in them. Still, he keeps looking, a model for all those of us who would like to understand more (of anything) than we do. The Castle of Crossed Destinies - In this pair of long stories, groups of travelers are stranded (in a castle, in a inn) and mysteriously unable to speak. They are desperate to tell their stories, though (they all have stories), and manage to do this by laying out playing cards on a table in a certain order. Many adventures arise, including some old and famous ones, those of Faust and Oedipus, for example. There is even a flickering figure who resembles Sigmund Freud. The Cloven Viscount - The first of the three novellas later collected under the title Our Ancestors. Hit by a cannonball in an ancient war against the Turks, the titular viscount survives to become two people, the good guy and the bad guy. Things being what they are, though, in fantasy and in fact, neither of these figures gets on all that well with his compatriots, and only an end to the division can bring the story to a happy end. Cosmicomics - A collection of brilliant short stories exploring Calvino’s interest in science and the fate of the earth. Topics like evolution, the distance of the moon from the earth, life as a mollusc, the last dinosaurs, messages from space all receive ironic and imaginative treatment. As Calvino says in a letter, joking and telling the truth as usual, . They are too far apart to fire at each other, and there is no wind, so they cannot move. Many commentators have seen an allegory of Italian politics and the cold war in this tale, but the narrator Donald Duck (who sailed with Drake) is not giving anything away. Hermit in Paris - Autobiographical essays, bringing politics, writing and reading into close contact. The world outside used to be . It is amazing how many of the old signs of the outside live in that space. This article is missing information about Polygamy in history. Please expand the article to include this information.
